Media personality Dr. Umar Johnson is not pleased with the jokes made during Netflix’s Kevin Hart Roast earlier this month.

Dr. Umar Expresses Rage Over Kevin Hart Roast

The roast has led to a lot of backlash from members of the black community. However, there have been some who have defended the jokes that were made. Categorizing it as “risque comedy.” In a recent sit-down with Art of Dialogue, Dr Umar likened the Netflix Joke to a “minstrel show”. Noting that both platforms serve the same purpose, to disrespect black people

“Let me say this to all the c—ns… guess what they were saying on my Instagram… ‘you don’t understand risque comedy’… nahh house n—-er, I understand it… I don’t care what comedy, you are NOT gonna disrespect Black people,” he said in a clip shared by KillaKrewww on X.

Several jokes during the Kevin Hart roast left the black community dismayed. But the one that seemed to really infuriate people was during comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s set. When he made a joke about the police brutality victim George Floyd.

“Kevin, the Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all, laughing so hard he can’t breathe,” he said.

George Floyd was a victim of police brutality. After Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin infamously knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes, causing him to pass away from lack of oxygen. Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in April 2021, resulting in a 22.5-year sentence.

Dr. Umar Encourages Pastors to Threaten Netflix With Boycott

Dr. Umar goes on to reference pastor Jamal Bryant’s statement, where he “rebuked” Netflix for allowing the roast to be held on the platform. Umar then challenged Pastor Bryant to round up a group of his colleagues and ministry. And challenged them to draft a letter to Netflix and let them know that if they use their platform for similar content in the future, they would hold a National Black Boycott of the streaming service.
