Drake dropped his highly anticipated ninth studio album, Iceman, on Friday (May 15). And his latest project could end up being historic in a lot of ways.
Drake Expected to Surpass Jay-Z’s Longstanding Record
Drake’s latest project is expected to top the Billboard Hot 200 this week. And if that materializes, it would put the rapper in rare air. Drizzy would officially surpass Jay-Z for the most number-one albums by a rapper (via Kurrco/X). Of course, the project led to a lot of reactions from fans on social media.
“Jay is retired. So all he need to do is drop something with his wife. And it’s over for Drake,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Drake breaking JAY-Z’s record with a 43-track dump proves that the Billboard 200 has completely lost its meaning,” a second user chimed in.
“What’s crazy is if you go album for album, Jay Z ain’t touching him quality-wise!” a third user responded.

The irony in all of this is that Drake appears to aim at Jay-Z on several different occasions on his new project.
The first instance is on his new track Janice STFU which debuted in Iceman Episode 4. So the song he raps: “You boys got big on my name, that’s big enough…we know how you OGs rocking already my n- the jig is up.”
Jigga man is one of Jay-Z’s nicknames.
The second instance is on the album’s third track Whisper My Name. Where he raps: “I’ll take $500K, not the dinner, I never could learn sh*t from none of y’all.”
Appearing to reference the popular social media conversation where users are asked to choose between $500k and dinner with Jay-Z.
It will be interesting to see how Jay-Z responds.
