On Friday, July 4, Drake released his new single, “What Did I Miss?” Despite only being out for a short time, the song is already making an impact. It has peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite the industry seemingly turning against him, Drizzy’s influence is still undeniable. If he secures another number-one hit, it would pretty much immortalize him. As he would surpass music icon Michael Jackson. He has come close on several occasions in the last few months, but still no cigar.

Drake Vows to Surpass Michael Jackson

For the second straight week, What Did I Miss? Came in at the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100. However, in a recent social media post, Drake vowed that his new single would be the song that helps him edge out the King of Pop.

“Suppressor on the number one spot. I’m taking that soon don’t worry. One song or another. Rule changes and all,” he wrote on his Instagram story on July 14 (via Akademiks TV)

After Drake vowed to surpass the late legend, fans sounded off on social media.

“He ain’t playing. He has too many number ones as proof,” one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Meanwhile it is falling to #14 next week. Guess he spent all the Bot money flying streamers and YNs to London to pretend his concert was lit,” another user added.

“This n***a Drake is doing too much talking. Just let your work and music speak for itself,” another user said.

Drake may not have Michael Jackson’s record yet. But one thing that he does have is the attention of the rap industry.

On a recent episode of Jadakiss & Fat Joe’s podcast, Joe and Jada, Fat Joe insinuated that the “soul” of the pop icon, won’t allow Drizzy to take the crown.

“I felt like the new track was really dope,” said Joe. “I listened to it a couple of times and uh you know he’s one number one away from Michael Jackson’s record, and I think the soul of Michael Jackson is fighting that shit cause every time he put out one you think it’s going to take that joint, just it back down.”
