The rollout for Iceman has already created quite the buzz on social media.
On Monday (April 20), Drake revealed that the release date of his new project was hidden inside a large ice sculpture. That appeared in Downtown Toronto over the weekend. And after almost 12 hours of trying to melt and break the ice, one lucky streamer, Kiska, found a mystery bag. Hidden inside one of the blocks of the sculpture.
But even after the release date was revealed, the sculpture was still causing havoc across Drake’s hometown. And as a result, the Fire Department decided to melt down the sculpture due to public safety concerns.
Following the decision, Olivia Chow, the Mayor of Toronto, said that she stood behind the fire chief’s choice.
“The fire chief made the decision last night, and I support his decision. His responsibility is people’s safety,” she said. “Folks climbed it. I’ve seen them doing all types of things. It is our responsibility to make sure people are safe.”
However, even though they had to melt the sculpture down, Chow said she still supports Drizzy. And shared her excitement about his new album.
“Drake is a big supporter of our city, and there’s so much excitement across our city towards this new Drake album, The Iceman. I’m excited too.”
Iceman is set to arrive on May 15.
