Drake has quickly become one of the more iconic artists of our generation. Racking up several Grammy awards and platinum-certified albums. But once upon a time, he was a Canadian-born actor who played Jimmy Graham on the hit show Degrassi. Who rapped well enough to be signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label.
Drake Was “Intimidated” By Lil Waynes Gang Ties
But Drake’s suburban upbringing was a complete 180 from Lil Wayne’s reality, growing up in New Orleans. And his ties to blood members only heightened that experience. During a recent interview, Adam Bhala Lough, the director of Wayne’s The Carter documentary, said that Drake was often “intimidated” by Weezy’s gang affiliations. As they would often be present.
“I was [intimidated too], even though they were super cool to me. These are serious, Blood gang members with guns on them. Like, some sh*t could go down,” he said.
Bhala also described Drizzy as the “dorkier” member of the Young Money crew. He noted that during their rise to superstardom in the 2010s, Drake would sometimes be cast out by other members like Nicki Minaj and Mack Maine.
“The majority of the time when I wasn’t shooting with Wayne, but when I was on set, Wayne would disappear, and I was just hanging out with Tez [Bryant], Mack Maine, and Nicki Minaj,” he said. “At one point, I spent some time with her before Wayne did The Jimmy Kimmel Show, when nobody knew who she was, and they wouldn’t even let Drake on the bus. He was, like, such a dork that they wouldn’t even let him on the bus.”
At the time of writing, Drake has not responded to the comments made by Bhala.
