Draymond Green is pushing back against criticism surrounding the Atlanta Hawks planned “Magic City Night,” defending exotic dancers and the culture connected to the famous Atlanta club Magic City.

Green addressed comments made by Luke Kornet, who previously called on the Hawks to cancel the themed event, arguing it could contribute to the objectification and mistreatment of women. Kornet said the NBA should aim to protect and respect women, adding that allowing the promotion to go forward without protest could reflect poorly on the league.

Green, however, took a different stance. He suggested that exotic dancing should not automatically be viewed in a negative light and described it as a legitimate form of expression and performance.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever been, but if you see it in action, it’s actually a form of art — that some choose to indulge in and some choose not to indulge in,” Green said.

The four-time NBA champion also pushed back on the idea that women in that profession struggle with self-esteem, pointing to Cardi B as an example of someone who once worked as a dancer and has gone on to achieve massive success in music.

“[Cardi B is] selling out stadiums and her background would be that,” Green added. “I don’t think Cardi B has esteem issues. So, I think that’s actually a negative vantage point on these women that are in this line of work.”

Green went on to say that exotic dancing can empower women by giving them a way to make a living while expressing themselves freely.

The debate around the Hawks’ “Magic City Night” continues to spark conversation online, with some fans viewing the event as a celebration of Atlanta culture while others believe it sends the wrong message in a family-oriented NBA environment.
