Ebro Darden is opening up about the controversial end of his long-running Hot 97 morning show, Ebro in the Morning. After 13 years on the iconic New York hip-hop station, Ebro believes his outspoken political views played a major role in the show’s cancellation.
Speaking candidly, Ebro theorized that his progressive stance—particularly his vocal criticism of the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—may have made him a liability as the station’s parent company looked to secure new financial backing.
“They need my sht talking anti-Netanyahu, anti-government, progressive sht out the way,” Ebro said, suggesting that his commentary didn’t align with the interests of potential investors.
He went on to imply that business priorities ultimately outweighed authenticity and free expression. “They’re tryna get to the bag at these VCs, gotta raise some capital,” he added, framing the decision as one driven by venture capital concerns rather than ratings or cultural impact.
While Hot 97 has not publicly addressed Ebro’s claims, his comments have sparked renewed conversations about corporate influence, political speech, and the limits of dissent in mainstream media—especially within hip-hop spaces that have historically prided themselves on speaking truth to power.
