Earlier this month, New York City radio station Hot 97 nixed its flagship morning show, Ebro in the Morning, from its programming. A move that left the rap industry shellshocked.
Ebro Responds to Drake & Akademiks
Ebro has never been one to pull punches. And of course, that gained him some enemies in the 13 years that he spearheaded the morning program. Drake and DJ Akademiks, two of his most known enemies, did not hesitate to call Ebro out after the morning show was nixed. However, concerning the criticism he has received from Drizzy and Ak, Ebro appears to be taking it all in stride. As he says, their comments are doing more good than harm because they are giving him free promo.
“I have to assume that Drake knows what he’s doing,” he said. “And I have to assume that he and [Ak] know that they’re helping me. […] Ak promoted my Apple show yesterday; he promoted this show yesterday. A lot, bro.”
After the news dropped that Ebro in the morning was no more, Drake left an axe emoji under a social media post relaying the news. Additionally, DJ Akademiks has been going off on the morning show cast on his Twitch channel. As it relates to Ebro, he aimed at him for showing up to his other job at the Apple Music office early on Monday, claiming that he was scared to get fired from that job.
Ebro currently serves as the Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop & R&B, leading editorial strategy, managing editors, and scouting talent worldwide.
He also hosts The Ebro Show on Apple Music 1 (formerly Beats 1) to spotlight artists. He has served in the role since 2015.
Both Ebro and his co-host, Peter Rosenberg, have teased that even though they were essentially fired from Hot 97, they have an even bigger move planned.
