The New York City radio war between Power 105.1 and Hot 97 was one of the longest-running rivalries in the music industry. However, Fat Joe recently revealed that the feud between the two stations eventually impacted the artist.
Ebro Responds to Fat Joe’s ‘Dictator’ Claims
Fat Joe accused Hot 97 media personality Ebro Darden of forcing artists to choose sides. Effectively demanding they prioritize Hot 97 over rival station Power 105.1, and icing them out if they didn’t fall in line.
Although it was a harsh stance for Joe to take, Ebro did not appear to take any offense to Fat Joe’s recent comments. In fact, he appeared to agree with them more than anything.
“I was in that type of time,” Ebro admitted. “We were up against a behemoth, and we were always there first for artists… So what was our other mode to be? We were just going to fold up, roll up, and act like it was cool for y’all to run down the street and kiss ass to them and not do nothing for us?” he stated during a recent episode ofThe Ebro & Laura Rosenberg Show.
Ebro also went on to say that he felt like his actions were justified. Especially because Power 105.1 had the backing of media giant iHeartRadio.
“I definitely was on my BS 1,000%. Had to be. Had to protect my team. I had to ride for my team,” he added. “You guys thought we were just going to gladhand, be happy to be here, while y’all just run around with these corporate behemoths.”
However, Power 105.1 was the eventual victor in the radio war. In December, Hot 97 nixed Ebro In The Morning and replaced it with a morning program headlined by media personality, The Kid Mero.
