The New York City radio community was on pins and needles to start the week. The next host of Hot 97’s morning program was set to be announced on Monday (January 12).
Ebro Sends Message to Mero Following Hot 97 Announcement
Popular media personality The Kid Mero was announced as the new morning show host. Mero will have a tough act to follow. The former morning slot used to belong to Ebro in the Morning. A morning show hosted by Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez, headlined morning radio in New York City for the better part of the last decade.
Many people expected Ebro to be bitter about the pending announcement. After being nixed by the radio station less than a month ago. But he actually had some words of encouragement for the incoming radio host.
“Shout out to [The Kid Mero]. This is so great,” Ebro wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday.
Shout to @THEKIDMERO …. This is so great!

Mero has an extensive history in media. Most notably for his work on Desus & Mero, which used to air on the Showtime network. He is also one of the co-hosts of 7 pm in Brooklyn, along with NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony. Now, in his next role, he will be one of the major voices in the hip-hop community.
Following the announcement, Mero expressed his excitement to get started with Hot 97.
“HOT 97 is the station—it’s been the voice of NYC hip-hop and culture for decades,” he said in a statement (via Hot97). “I grew up listening to HOT 97, so to get the morning slot here isn’t just a job—it’s a responsibility to continue that legacy while bringing it into this next era of media. We’re gonna laugh, we’re gonna get into it, but it’s always gonna be real, and a real good time!”
Mero’s on-air debut with the network will be on Tuesday (January 13).
