April 11 marked the 20th anniversary of the passing of Detroit rapper, Proof. And Eminem was among those to pay tribute to the late rapper.
Eminem Pens Heartfelt Tribute to Proof
In a post on X on Saturday (April 11), Eminem paid homage to Proof, also known as Doody, with a heartfelt message.
Check it out below:
“Doody, can’t believe it’s been 20 years since you’ve been gone! Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you in some way, shape, or form…You were and are still one of the greatest friends I have ever had in my entire life, and I thank God every day that He put us in each other’s lives. I feel like that happened for a reason. Ever since the day I met you sitting on the steps of Osborne, when I was handing out flyers, and we rapped for each other, we instantly bonded and never looked back! My life would never have taken the trajectory it took had I not met you.
Thank you for always believing in me like I always believed in you!! We had such an amazing ride together, and I will never forget you and what you did for me and my self-esteem and confidence every time you cosigned for me at every club and open mic we ever went to!! Your credibility was enough to open people’s minds to not judge me until they heard me, and you were one of the first ones who got people to listen before they passed any judgment!! I love you, Doody. You will always be my best friend, no matter how much time passes, and I will never forget you as long as I live!!! Until we meet again, my friend, I love you, doody!!!”
How Did Proof Pass Away?
Proof was one of the members of D12, a rap collective spearheaded by Eminem. Who created hit songs like My Band, Under The Influence, and Purple Pills.
Unfortunately, Proof was tragically murdered after being shot at the Triple C nightclub in Detroit, Michigan, in April 2006. The incident stemmed from an argument during a game of pool that escalated into a physical altercation, leading to a shootout with a club bouncer. He was 32 at the time of his passing.
