Rap star Eminem scored a victory in court earlier this month. On Tuesday, June 17th his stalker was handed down a three-decade-long prison sentence.
Eminem’s Stalker Gets 30 Years in Prison
The 32-year-old man named Matthew Hughes was found guilty. Of invading the home of the 8 Mile star for a second time.
Per Fox 2 Detroit, Hughes was sentenced to 15-30 years in prison for first-degree home invasion and 3-7 ½ years for aggravated stalking. He will be mandated to spend a minimum of 18 years in jail as those two sentences will run concurrently.
Hughes broke into Eminem’s home in 2020.
Per court testimony provided by Fox2Detroit, initially, when Hughes broke into the rap star’s home, he thought that the intruder was his nephew and asked him what he was doing at his house.
After realizing that Hughes was indeed not his nephew, the “Death of Slim Shady,” creator escorted him from the residence.
During the home invasion, he also threatened to kill the rap star.
Following the sentencing, Macomb County Prosecutor, Pete Lucido sounded off on the verdict. Noting that no one should feel unsafe in their home, celebrities included.
He also said that the verdict sends a “clear message” on the severity of the consequences for stalking.
“No one, celebrity or not, should ever feel unsafe in their own home,” said Lucido. “This sentence sends a clear message that stalking and home invasion will be taken seriously in Macomb County and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Everyone has the right to privacy, safety, and peace of mind.”
Home invasions on celebrities have become a major problem as of late. In the past 12 months alone the homes of Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow, actress Nicole Kidman, music star Keith Urban, actor Anthony Anderson, and rapper Slim Thug’s homes have been trespassed upon.
Hopefully, this verdict will send a message.
