Erick Sermon is setting the record straight about a moment from Netflix’s Sean Combs: The Reckoning that left many viewers scratching their heads. During his appearance on The Breakfast Club, the EPMD legend was asked to clarify the story he shared in the documentary — one where he described a physical altercation with Diddy in a car, followed by the two unexpectedly going around the corner to listen to The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die album for the first time.
According to Sermon, the situation wasn’t as wild or contradictory as it sounded. He explained that while things did get heated between him and Diddy during their exchange, the two were actually friends at the time. The tension, he said, came from a disagreement — not animosity.
Sermon added an important detail missing from the documentary: out of respect for his close friend Misa Hylton, who was also Diddy’s girlfriend at the time, he and Diddy stepped away from the car and took their argument “around the corner” to avoid escalating the situation in front of her.
Once the confrontation cooled off, the two ended up sharing a moment of appreciation for Biggie’s soon-to-be-classic debut album. Sermon confirmed that this sequence of events — argument first, music second — was exactly how it happened, even if the documentary left the timeline sounding chaotic.
