Amid the release of Netflix’s new film, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, many have questioned how ethical the film is. While the new documentary chronicles the years of crimes and abuse committed by the music mogul, it also contains raw footage of Combs just days before his arrest in September 2024.
Former Diddy Videographer Reveals Hot Netflix Obtained Footage
Many have speculated about how the footage was obtained. Especially because from the film, it is obvious that Diddy is aware that he is being recorded. Diddy’s videographer, Michael Oberlies, is finally ready to clear the air about the footage.
In a statement to Deadline, Oberlies says that it was not he who released the footage. Rather, it was a “third party” who stood in for him on a day he was unable to film.
“The footage in question was not released by me or anyone authorized to handle Sean Combs’ materials; it was by a third party who covered for me for three days while I was out of state,” he said to the outlet. “This incident had nothing to do with any fee dispute or contract issue. The actions of the parties involved reflect the lack of integrity every storyteller should uphold. Taking footage intended for our project to advance a narrative that was not our own is both unethical and unacceptable.”
Following the debut of the film, Diddy and his legal team filed a cease and desist demanding that Netflix remove the documentary from their streaming service. They claimed that the footage was a “hit piece” given to Combs’ longtime rival, 50 Cent. However, the streaming service fired back at that notion. Stating that those claims are completely false.
Now Diddy could hit back even harder with rumors swirling that he is preparing to serve the involved parties with a lucrative defamation lawsuit. Stay tuned for more updates.
