What was hyped up as a wild shootout involving Troy Ave this week might have just been for the cameras.
On Tuesday (July 15), a video started making the rounds showing Troy Ave and West Coast party promoter Geoff Cole pulling into a garage, stepping out of a Bentley—and then, out of nowhere, a masked man runs up like he’s trying to rob them. In the clip, Troy wastes no time pulling out a gun and firing off shots as the masked man runs off into the alley. Cole later posted the security footage on his socials, calling out the alleged attacker and saluting Troy Ave for holding him down.
“I came home after celebrating the success of a sold-out Chef Fest with love & support from all over the West Coast,” Cole wrote. “And a hater from the same city tried 2 take it all away! S/o 2 my brother Ave for holding it down in a situation where most woulda ran or folded.”
But behind the viral moment, sources told TMZ there’s a different reality. According to law enforcement and insiders, there were no reports filed of any shooting or attempted robbery in the area that night. Authorities said they had no record of gunfire or a robbery in connection with the incident shown on video.
Those same sources claim the entire altercation was staged—there was no real gunfire, and the masked man wasn’t an actual threat. That matches what law enforcement allegedly confirmed: no evidence of shots fired, no shell casings recovered, and no injuries reported.
Troy Ave hasn’t publicly addressed the claims, but it wouldn’t be the first time the Brooklyn rapper has leaned into controversy or theatrics to keep his name circulating. Whether this was an elaborate PR move or simply a miscalculated stunt, it’s clear not everything in the footage is as real as it first seemed
