“It is with heavy hearts that the children of the R&B Singer Angie Stone along with her extended family want to thank you all for your love and well wishes at what is an extremely difficult time,” the statement read.
The Grammy-nominated performer was the only fatality in the car accident last Saturday (March 1) after performing her final show in Montgomery, Ala.
The Alabama Highway Patrol said in a news release that the 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van turned over on Interstate 65 about 4:25 a.m. Saturday before being hit by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by a 33-year-old man from Texas.
The family statement continued to highlight Stone’s love for community and serving people through her organization, Angel Stripes, the Angie Stone Foundation.
“Angie was an example for Black women and girls everywhere,” said her family members. “Angie also loved and championed for Black Men with her number one hit entitled ‘Brotha.'”
Angie Stone’s family’s statement also included her Divine Nine status with the Zeta Phi Beta sorority and her recent attendance at the College for Ministry.
“Her love of God and her faith led her to have a deep desire to share her belief in God and bring more people to Christ,” the statement added.
Stone’s family asks for privacy as they mourn and grieve their loss in addition to making funeral arrangements.
