Former rap star Fat Joe found himself in hot water after being slammed in a $20 million lawsuit.
The lawsuit, filed by the “Lean Back” creator’s former hypeman Terrence “T.A.” Dixon and his lawyer Tyrone Blackburn alleges that Fat Joe is guilty of several things, including sex trafficking minors.
Fat Joe’s Lawyer Hits Back at $20 Million Lawsuit
The one-time rap star has called on the big dogs to fight this lawsuit. He has employed celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina. The same lawyer who got A$AP Rocky acquitted in his shooting trial earlier this year. After the lawsuit was filed, Tacopina released a statement hitting back at Dixon’s lawsuit.
Tacopina says that their litigation is just a failed attempt at “retaliation.” After Fat Joe filed a civil defamation lawsuit against the hypeman earlier this year.
“The lawsuit filed by Tyrone Blackburn and Terrance Dixon is a blatant act of retaliation—a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the civil suit we filed first, which exposed their coordinated scheme to extort Mr. Cartagena through lies, threats, and manufactured allegations,” Tacopina said in the statement.
Tacopina also took aim at Dixon’s attorney Tyrone Blackburn. In the statement, the celebrity attorney notes Blackburn’s repeated history of pursuing “headline-chasing,” lawsuits.
“We didn’t just sue a disgruntled former employee trying to revive a false claim from 15 years ago—we sued the lawyer behind it all. Tyrone Blackburn has a well-documented pattern of abusing the courts to harass defendants and generate media attention,” Tacopina added in the statement.
He also noted that his past behavior has gotten him in trouble with judges in the past.
“Two separate federal judges have condemned his conduct—one for filing headline-chasing lawsuits full of salacious and baseless claims, and another for making repeated legal misstatements and personal attacks in court filings. He is now the subject of a pending referral to the Southern District’s disciplinary committee.”
Tacopina ends the statement by calling the allegations against Fat Joe a “complete fabrication,” and vowed that justice would prevail.
