Late Thursday night (July 31), prosecutors clapped back at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ $50 million bail request with a fiery court filing demanding the Bad Boy founder stay exactly where he is—behind bars.
In the sharply worded letter to the judge, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Combs “must be detained pending sentencing,” calling him a danger to the public and a flight risk. They argued that Diddy doesn’t come close to meeting the legal bar for post-conviction bail and that his history speaks for itself.
“There are no exceptional circumstances justifying his release,” prosecutors wrote. “Even if there were, the defendant cannot demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that he is not a danger to the community.”
Prosecutors painted a grim picture of Diddy’s alleged behavior over decades, saying he transported people across state lines for sex “hundreds of times,” plied them with drugs, and orchestrated multi-day sex parties dubbed “Freak Offs.” They alleged that both Cassie Ventura and an anonymous woman known as Jane were drugged, assaulted, and controlled during these events, with Combs using a tight circle of staff to keep it all running.
“It is ‘impossible’ for the defendant—having repeatedly conceded his propensity for violence at trial—‘to demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that he poses no danger,’” they wrote, blasting his team’s efforts as a weak attempt to downplay the damage.
The rebuke comes just days after Diddy’s legal team filed two major motions—one asking for his release on bond, and another pushing for either an acquittal or a brand-new trial. His lawyers say the Mann Act, a federal law used to convict him in July, was misapplied. They claim Diddy never profited from prostitution, didn’t have sex with the alleged victims, and didn’t arrange any travel—making his conviction a legal outlier.
“The defendant’s extensive history of violence—and his continued attempt to minimize his recent violent conduct—demonstrates his dangerousness,” the filing added.
As it stands, Diddy remains locked up at Brooklyn’s MDC. His sentencing is locked in for October 3, and the court hasn’t ruled on his latest Hail Mary. But with the feds coming this hard? Freedom isn’t looking likely.
