Jim Jones is no stranger to serving up controversy. And over the last few months, he has upset quite a few people with his criticisms about fellow New York emcee, Nas. But amid all the backlash he has received concerning his comments, he has found an ally in drill artist Fivio Foreign.
Fivio Foreign Makes Bold Statement About Nas
During a recent conversation with Jones on his new Artist 2 Artist podcast, Fivio showed respect to Nas as an artist. However, he did note that despite his respect for the Queensbridge product, he has trouble naming a lot of his catalog.
“I’m not saying that the man is wack, he’s not a legend,” Fivio said. “I got a song with the n***a—I got a song on the album and the album got a Grammy. But I can’t sit there and say a Nas bar to you or a song.”
Despite being critical of Nas over the past several months, Jones offered a differing opinion about the Illmatic creator. Noting that, because of his elder statesman status, he has a more extensive knowledge of Nas’s catalog.
“But I can,” Jones responded. “I understand. That’s what I want the people to know—but I can ‘cause Nas was my era. … I came up f*****g with Nas. I know the Nas s**t. … But moving forward, I started a whole new era in a whole new genre and a generation of people. I just be doing me.”
Jones caught a lot of heat this summer after making several eye-popping statements about his career compared to Nas’s. Noting that his success as an artist is often downplayed. But he has the accolades to prove all of his critics wrong.
“They forget, I got a hell of a catalog. Gold records, platinum records. … Check my track record. Then check everybody else’s track record,” he said on Fat Joe and Jadakiss’s Joe and Jada Podcast earlier this year. “If you want to go to the Billboard entries, pull up Nas’ Billboard entries and pull up my Billboard entries.”
