One of the biggest fights in boxing history is set to receive a sequel this September. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are scheduled to once again meet in the squared circle.
Mayweather, Pacquiao Set to Fight in September
According to ESPN, Mayweather and Pacquiao are scheduled to duel on September 19th. And a fight this big could only happen in one place — Las Vegas. However, the venue will be different. The fight will be held at the new Las Vegas Sphere—just a short distance from Floyd’s usual Vegas venue, the MGM Grand.
When the two gladiators met back in 2015, Mayweather came out victorious as the winner by unanimous decision. And he believes that the rematch of the bout that many labeled the “Fight of the Century,” will have the same result.
“I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,” Floyd said in a statement (via ESPN).
Floyd has remained in boxing shape as he has competed in several exhibition matches post-retirement. But there was no real risk involved in those bouts. As the result didn’t count toward his unblemished boxing record of 50-0. But this match won’t be an exhibition. And Manny says he would love nothing more than to hand Floyd the first loss of his career.
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said in a statement (via ESPN). “The fans have waited long enough — they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.”
