Alchemist and Freddie Gibbs are officially back in chef mode. After quietly hinting at it on socials last month, the Grammy-nominated duo have seemingly begun rolling out the highly anticipated follow-up to their 2020 fan-favorite, Alfredo.
This week, things started bubbling in a bigger way. Gibbs announced a short film premiere locked in for Wednesday, July 16 at Brain Dead Studios in LA. The film, fittingly titled Alfredo, is part of what’s shaping up to be a layered and immersive album rollout.
But that’s not the only ingredient in the mix. Over the past few weeks, TMZ Hip Hop and others have spotted mysterious flyers popping up around LA advertising a “grand reopening” for a restaurant serving up prime “alfredo” with “twice the sauce.” That wasn’t just street team energy. Tracing the number led to a series of cryptic Craigslist ads hyping up an “American restaurateurs Fred & Alan” collab—set to debut in Tokyo before expanding globally.
Now, similar “Alfredo” restaurant listings have started surfacing on Craigslist in Chicago and New York too, pointing to something much bigger than a one-city activation.
If you remember, the first Alfredo dropped in May 2020, right at the top of the pandemic—and it took both Gibbs and Alchemist to new heights, landing them a Best Rap Album Grammy nomination.
With Alfredo 2, it looks like Fred and Alan are cooking with even more heat—and a lot more sauce. Stay tuned.
