The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) went down in New York on Sunday (September 7). And all of the stars were in attendance to celebrate one of the most memorable years in music. However, the star-studded event had no shortage of drama. Particularly when it came to rap stars, Freddie Gibbs and Gunna.
Freddie Gibbs Targets Gunna During the VMAs
Gibbs took aim at Gunna, who was seated just a few feet from him. Calling him out for being a “rat bastard.”
“I see you, boy. He’s tryna hide,” Gibbs says in the video as he zooms in on the back of Gunna’s head.”
However, fans on social media felt like the rap star was doing too much.
“A grown ass man recording himself gossiping like a high school girl,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“You fanned tf out recording the back of another man’s head,” another user added.
“Some people will always be lame no matter how much money they make,” a third user added.

Gunna’s Lawyer Shuts Down Snitching Accusations
Gibbs’ accusations against Gunna stem from his role in the YSL Rico trial. Gunna entered an Alford Plea in the trial. As part of his plea deal, Gunna had to acknowledge YSL as a gang.
While many people believed this to mean that Gunna cooperated with authorities, his lawyer, Steve Sadow, dispelled that notion after his release.
“Gunna did NOT cooperate, did NOTHING, and said NOTHING to cause harm to Thug’s case. He spent 8 months in jail and was released in December 2022 after entering an Alford plea,” Sadow wrote in a social media post. “Gunna’s plea could not and was not used at Thug’s trial, and he was never even named as a witness. He received a 5-year suspended sentence, with no reporting, no travel restrictions, no living restrictions, AND NO PROBATION.”
He also added: “Thug went to trial and eventually pled guilty and nolo after spending 30 months in jail, received 15 years probation, with reporting conditions, and is not even allowed to live in Atlanta. THOSE THAT HAVE AND CONTINUE TO BAD MOUTH GUNNA, GET OVER IT. NUFF’ SAID.”
