Fans were beaming with excitement when they found out that Grand Theft Auto was returning. The sixth installment of the popular shooter-em-up game, which gained popularity in the early 2000s, was set to make its return in 2026. After more than a decade.
With Grand Theft Auto set to make its return debut on the PlayStation 5, anticipation was building. As the time moved closer toward its 2026 release date. However, fans will now have to wait a little while longer before they can play the game. Rockstar Games, the developers behind the iconic video game, revealed that its release date has now been pushed back to November 19, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto Release Date Delayed Once Again
In a statement released on Thursday (November 6), the company apologized for yet another delay. But said that the delay is a necessary roadblock for the users to have an optimal gaming experience.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait. But these extra months will allow us to finish the game. With the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” the company said in a press release on Thursday.
The video game was initially set to release in September of this year. Then it was pushed back to May 2026. And now it is set to release more than a year from now. With PlayStation 6 rumored to release in 2027, fans are grilling the developers even harder about the release date of the game.
But don’t expect that to have an impact on when the game is released. Rockstar CEO Strauss Zelnick says that release date delays are never something that the company regrets. Because it is a necessary evil to ensure they are putting forth the best product.
“It’s always painful when we slip a date, and we have done so occasionally in the past,” Zelnick said in a recent investors call via PC Gamer. “And we’ve never regretted it in retrospect. “I would like to point out that we have some competitors that, in the event where more polish was required, and it required slipping a date, they chose not to slip the date. And they did so at their peril.”
