Once upon a time Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy had one of the most bitter rivalries in hip-hop. So when the two rap juggernauts faced off in a Verzuz in November 2020, there were initial concerns over how things would go.
As most expected, Gucci Mane took it there when he performed his 2012 hit Truth. A song that targets Jeezy where Gucci boasts about killing Jeezy’s close friend, Pookie Loc in 2005.
Gucci Mane Sounds Off About Verzuz With Jeezy
Jeezy could of hit back. But instead he chose to not further escalate things by performing his Gucci Mane Diss track. And Gucci is glad that he didn’t. Because according to Gucci, If Jeezy had gone that route, things could have gone really bad.
“I’m glad he stopped and did what he did. ‘Cause if he would’ve played ‘Stay Strapped,’ I don’t think I could’ve took it,” Gucci said according to Complex. “I guess he seen the situation and said, ‘Let’s calm it down.’ Because it would’ve been a volcano, it would’ve blown up, I was ready to go there. I really was in the heat of the moment, I didn’t even intend for it to be like that, I didn’t intend to go there like that. But then it’s like, once you get there, it’s like… Once I started the Verzuz, it seemed like he was more level-headed and calmer than I was… I’m dropping diss records, and he’s not dropping diss records.”
In the fallout of the Verzuz, Gucci says Jeezy decision to diffuse the situation rather than further escalate it, made Jeezy gain a new level of respect for him.
“From then on, it ain’t been no disrespect since then,” he continued. “I couldn’t do nothing but respect it. Because if I diss you and you don’t diss back and you go there, I respect that… At that moment, you’re thinking about the bigger picture. He didn’t crash out. That’s smart.”
