The Hip-Hop community is mourning the loss of Young Bleed, who passed away today after suffering a brain aneurysm following his appearance on a VERZUZ battle over the weekend.
Young Bleed first gained national attention in the late 1990s when his track with C-Loc, “How You Do That,” was remixed by Master P of No Limit Records. The remix was featured on the 1997 soundtrack for Master P’s film I’m Bout It, which went on to top Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop album charts in mid-1998.
Following the success of that project, Master P helped Young Bleed secure a deal with Priority Records, leading to his major label debut, My Balls & My Word, in 1998. The album was a commercial success, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop album charts. It would later be certified gold and eventually platinum in the U.S., cementing Young Bleed’s place in Hip-Hop history.
Known for his distinctive voice and authentic storytelling, Young Bleed left a mark on Southern Hip-Hop and inspired countless artists who followed in his footsteps. Fans, peers, and the broader Hip-Hop community are sharing their condolences and celebrating his legacy during this difficult time.
Young Bleed’s contributions to Hip-Hop will not be forgotten — his music, style, and influence remain a lasting part of the culture.
