Hot97 Host, Da Kid Mero, and Akademiks are two of the top personalities in hip-hop media. And the two engaged in a war of words on social media over the weekend.

Akademiks & Mero Trade Shots on Social Media

The catalyst of their back-and-forth was a recent Akademiks stream. He gives his thoughts on the termination of former Hot 97 hosts Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez. He then goes on to say that Mero being their replacement was a “DEI hire.” And suggested that he will also be terminated soon.

Obviously, Mero took exception to those comments.

“LIVI IS A D*******R THAT NEEDS THIS “MEDIA GUY GOSSIP” S**T TO SURVIVE HE CAN’T MAKE* ANYTHING. HE CANT HAVE AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT, F****N FAT DORK,” Mero wrote on social media on Saturday (March 21).

Akademiks goes on to call Mero a “mascot,” expressing that he was never viewed as a top talent. Even dating back to his days as one of the co-hosts of Desus and Mero.

However, Mero shot back at Akademiks. Accusing him of never creating original content. And only talking about gossip for clicks and views.

“CREATE OTHER CONTENT, PRODUCE OTHER UP AND COMING VOICES, MAKE F****N MUSIC LITERALLY ANYTHING ASIDE FROM SITTING HIS MUDDY A** IN THAT CHAIR THAT IS 10000% BEGGING FOR MERCY AND F****N YAPPING ABOUT OTHER MEN AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS,” he said.

In another post, he added: “THIS FAT S**T EATING BULLFROG DOESN’T DO *ANYTHING* AS A “VOICE OF HIPHOP” EXCEPT TAKE PAYOLA TO LIE ABOUT NEW RELEASES.”

Akademiks concluded by insisting he was done “punching down” on The Kid Mero. And insisted that he is envious of his success in the industry.

“I gotta stop punching down… I guess I never forgot bum a** ni**as playing with me in the past .. and their worst nightmares came to pass… me where I am now,” he said.
