Is Hov about to take it back to 1996?
Jay-Z has fans buzzing after launching the website JayZ30.com and releasing the original version of “Dead Presidents” on streaming services — both clear signs that he’s preparing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. Now, speculation is growing that a series of anniversary concerts could be on the way.
On Feb. 21, an internet sleuth pointed out that the New York Liberty — who play their home games at the Barclays Center — have no home games scheduled between June 19 and July 3. The timing raised eyebrows, considering the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt falls on June 25. Adding fuel to the theory, there are currently no other events listed at Barclays Center on that date.
One fan on X noted how unusual the gap appears, observing that the arena typically hosts events almost daily — except during the week of the album’s anniversary.
However, there is one potential wrinkle in the theory: the NBA Draft. For the past several years, the draft has been held at Barclays Center and is reportedly expected to take place on June 24 and June 25, though this year’s venue has not yet been officially confirmed.
Whether coincidence or carefully orchestrated rollout, one thing is clear — Jay-Z is actively commemorating Reasonable Doubt. If anniversary shows are indeed in the works, a Brooklyn celebration would be fitting for an album that helped define not just a borough, but an era in hip-hop.
Jay-Z sparks speculation that he is planning Reasonable Doubt anniversary shows in New York.
