In the eyes of many, Jay-Z is the greatest rapper of all time. The conversation around hip-hop is always based on opinion. And in a 2020 social media post, rap artist Isaiah Rashad offered an opinion about Jay-Z that was different than most.
Isaiah Rashad Doubles Down on His Future Praise
It wasn’t just the fact that he didn’t place HOV in the top spot. What was alarming was who he placed above him. As he declared Atlanta artist, Future, the GOAT rap artist.
“It’s future then Hov,” Rashad wrote in the post that has since been removed from his profile.
In a recent interview with VICE, Rashad changed the tone of his initial statement. He says that he no longer lists Future over Jay-Z. In addition, he says that Kendrick Lamar has now entered the top 3 in his rapper rankings.
“It’s not Future over Hov though no more actually,” Rashad said. “It’s lowkey Hov, then Dot and Future neck to neck.”
As for Rashad, he is preparing to drop a new album. It has been four years since he dropped his last project, The House is Burning. And it isn’t just fans who are pressuring Rashad to deliver a new project. He also notes that he has been feeling the pressure from Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) President, Dave Free.
As for what he can expect from the upcoming project? Rashad says he has drawn inspiration from everywhere to enhance the album’s versatility.
“The biggest inspiration for me was Fousheé… Prince, I’ve been having “If I Was Your Girlfriend” on repeat for 2-3 months. For this tail-end part of my project, this girl, PLUTO from Atlanta, she’s been inspiring me and this other girl, BunnaB,” he said.
“I’m touching more [Outkast’s] Stankonia and The Love Below more than anything else. I would say Top made compromises for the creativity on this one, so I appreciate it.”
