J. Cole has not dropped an album since 2021, when he dropped The Offseason. And fans may finally have their answer as to why the lapse was so long.

J. Cole’s Album Was Delayed Because of Drake and Kendrick

During a recent episode of Rory & Mal, Mal mentions that Kendrick Lamar and Drake were both originally planned to be on the project. However, it sounds like Cole decided to boot both artists off the project in the aftermath of their lyrical warfare.

“Yes, Kendrick was on the album, and Drake was on the album. Well, was, which is why we didn’t get the album, cause now he gotta do his whole album over,” Mal said as heard through @Kurrrco/X.

However, fans on social media didn’t appear to buy the podcaster’s story.

“You gotta do your whole album over because you gotta scrap two features? Sounds like a load of barnacles,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“When y’all gonna realize these n***as never know what they’re talking about? Believe the opposite of whatever these 3 bozos say,” another user added.

“How tf one song means you gotta do the album over?” a third user chimed in.

The 2024 feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar will be remembered forever. But what is often forgotten is that J. Cole was the catalyst of the entire ordeal.

The feud was ignited after J. Cole named himself, Kendrick, and Drake the “Big 3” on a Drizzy’s song “First Person Shooter.” However, Kendrick quickly dismissed the notion when he said it was just “big me” on Future and Metro Boomin’s track “Like That.” That ultimately led to Cole getting involved when he dropped his song “7 Minute Drill,” but he bowed out shortly after the song was released. However, despite Cole dismissing himself, Drake and Kendrick’s feud escalated. The two artists traded intense diss tracks questioning legacies and personal lives, culminating in Kendrick’s victory and J. Cole later expressing regret over the toxicity.
