After his latest album, The Fall Off, had a strong showing, many people were wondering if J. Cole could be in line for another Grammy award. But the rap star doesn’t appear to care at all.
J.Cole Rips Grammys For Giving Out ‘Sympathy’ Awards
Cole dropped off yet another verse for fans. He appeared on the track OFG off Mike Will’s R3set album that debuted on Friday (March 20). And in his verse, he called out the Grammys for giving “sympathy” awards away to artists.
“F**k them lil’ sympathy GRAMMYs,” he raps.
He goes on to say that he prefers to be named among lyricists who are well-respected in the hip-hop culture but not necessarily by the Grammy board.
“Put me right back on that list that had Pac and Biggie, Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg, and The LOX, and n**** like that who ain’t never get props,” he adds.

Of course, Cole’s verse went viral on social media. And fans had a lot of reactions to it.
“Ya know what’s funny, the losers of the Grammys talk about them the most,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“But yet continues to submit his album to the Academy Board for the Grammys every time,” a second user chimed in.
“Tough talk from a ni**a who ran from smoke,” a third user added.
Despite the criticism, Cole is a two-time Grammy winner in his own right.
He scored one for the category of best rap song in 2020 for his feature verse on 21 Savage’s hit record, A Lot. He collected his second one in 2024 for his Collaboration with Lil Durk on All My Life.
When you look at Cole’s competition, it’s easy to see why he would feel a way. Drake has won five Grammy awards. Kendrick Lamar has won 27.
