J. Cole was supposed to perform in Sacramento this week as part of his tour. However, a tragic death of a valued member of his tour crew led to the show’s cancellation.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. on southbound I-5 near County Road 95 in Yolo County. California Highway Patrol officials said the truck drifted onto the shoulder before the driver attempted to get back on the freeway, losing control, resulting in the vehicle overturning.
Emergency crews extracted the driver, but by the time they were on the scene, CHP confirmed that he died from the extent of his injuries. The identity of the driver is allegedly 66-year-old Jarlath Parkinson. Investigators have not determined the cause of the crash. CHP Sgt. David Barker told CBS that authorities are considering several possibilities, including distraction or the driver falling asleep.
After this, Cole’s team posted on Instagram that the show would not go on out of respect for the crew member.
“Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.
Cole Future Plans
Patrons who purchased off Ticketmaster will receive full refunds, and people who used third-party sites are encouraged to get in touch with the proper channels.
Cole’s upcoming shows in Oakland are expected to go on.
