JID is one of the most talented artists on J.Cole’s Dreamville label. Perhaps the most talented. And J. Cole gave him a major salute during his appearance on the Lost in Vegas podcast.
J. Cole Gives JID a Major Co-Sign
When JID came up during his discussion, J. Cole said he has the “desire, will, and the want” to surpass himself, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar. And be the leader of the new generation of great rappers.
“JID has the desire, the will, and the want to surpass all of us… He got what I had, and what I’m sure Kendrick had, and what Drake had. The high bar for himself, you know what I mean?” Cole said, “He can do it… But, more important than all, he’s willing to do the work. He’s got the work ethic to do it, and he loves this sh*t.”

JID has been signed to Dreamville since 2017. And despite having the talent level to be one of the top artists in the game, that hasn’t been the case. And many have attributed that to a lack of promotion on the part of J. Cole.
For example, Cole has dropped two projects this year. A mixtape, Birthday Blizzard 2026, and his seventh studio album, The Fall Off. JID was not one of the featured on either project.
During a recent social media rant, Joey Bada$$ suggested that the reason Cole doesn’t feature JID on most of his songs is that he is afraid of getting outclassed on the record. And accused other artists who are label owners of doing the same.
“This is exactly why you didn’t see JID on The Fall Off. He would’ve OVERSTOOD the assignment,” Badass wrote in a social media post on Tuesday (March 25). “To me personally, it made no sense that he wasn’t on there, but hey, maybe that’s just me. btw I loved the album, but let’s be frank.”
Could this be the year that JID finally breaks out?
