J. Cole is still on his media tour after he dropped his seventh studio album, The Fall Off. He recently appeared on the Lost In Vegas podcast. And made some interesting comments regarding the word “culture.”
J. Cole Gets Honest About The Word ‘Culture’
Culture is a word that has become used a lot in hip-hop. Used to define things that are a part of the history and fabric of the genre. However, Cole feels like it has become a “buzzword” that people are using loosely.
“It’s an empty word now. It used to mean something. Now it’s just a buzzword that doesn’t mean anything,” the rap star said (via Kurrco/X).
However, fans on social media had mixed opinions about Cole’s comments.
“A n***a that does everything the opposite of the culture and gets cooked by the REAL culture is saying the word ain’t relevant no more,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“He is actually speaking facts if you watch the whole clip,” a second user chimed in.
Yeah, this ni**a doesn’t like Kendrick like that, I can tell lol everything he says goes against Kendrick. I love it,” another person said.
J. Cole says the word “culture” has been watered down:

On several occasions during this media tour, Cole has sounded exhausted with the current state of hip-hop. This had led many fans to believe that The Fall Off was his last album.
During a recent interview on Cam’ron’s Talk With Flee, Cole once again addressed the retirement rumors. And in his words, he’s “cool” if he never drops another project. But if he feels inspired to do so in a few years, he won’t let the trauma of what happened between himself, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar discourage him from creating his art.
“If that’s my last album, I’m cool. If I get inspired in a year, two years, five years, ten years to do another album, I’m not going to fight the feeling… Because of what happened two years ago,” he said as heard through Kurrco/X. “I’m very inspired right now, because I fell back in love with this sh*t.”
