It was a good win for the Knicks on Tuesday night. But it was far from easy. With seven and a half minutes to go, the Knicks looked dead in the water. Trailing by 22 points and in danger of losing home-court advantage, the Knicks needed a savior. And their starting point guard, Jalen Brunson, stepped up to the plate. Scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
But as good a win as it was for the Knicks, it was an equally monumental collapse for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Their All-Star backcourt of Donovan Mitchell and James Harden was pretty much absent in clutch time. And Harden couldn’t stop a nosebleed on defense. As Jalen Brunson made a mockery of him in the clutch.
The teams will meet in The Garden again on Thursday night (May 21) for Game 2 before the series shifts to Cleveland.
