The Lox are often regarded as one of the greatest rap groups of all time. Their run began in the 1990s after legendary producer Puff Daddy, aka Diddy, signed them to a record deal with the iconic Bad Boy Records.

Jadakiss Reveals The LOX Nearly Signed to Death Row

It was their appearances on hit records such as All About the Benjamins and Money, Power, & Respect that catapulted them to superstardom. But things almost did not shake out that way. During a recent episode of the Joe & Jada podcast, Jadakiss revealed that the group almost signed with Diddy’s nemesis, Suge Knight of Death Row Records.

“Suge called Sheek [Louch’s] mom’s crib when was was young. Right when the Bad Boy deal was on the table. Somehow, he heard, and we were in Sheek’s crib watching Video Music Box, and Suge called his crib. Louch must have been like, ‘Hold on… Yo, it’s f*****g Suge on the phone.’ We like, ‘What?!’ I remember they said, ‘Yo, we want to sign.’ They never even heard us,” Jadakiss said.

“They just must have, ’cause Puff was about to sign us. So he likes, ‘Yo, y’all can get on a red eye tonight with however many people you want to come over here with. I could fly out tonight.’”

Jadakiss went on to express that he was glad that the group ultimately decided to stick with Bad Boy. Because signing with Death Row “wouldn’t have been a good look.”

“It wouldn’t have been a good look. Probably wouldn’t have worked overall,” he added.

LOX Confirm Upcoming Project

As legendary as the group is, The LOX have not dropped an album since 2020. When they dropped their fourth studio album, Living Off Xperience. However, during a May 2025 interview with UPROXX, the group revealed that they have a new project on the way. For the first time in nearly five years.

“Also, we have a new project coming out, Jadakiss told the outlet, also adding that fans can expect a “dope” project.

Sheek Louch echoed Jadakiss’s sentiments, calling the upcoming project “fire” while also adding:

“The content is incredible as far as our wordplay showing that we’ve grown what we talk about, but not grandpa-ing it out.”
