The bout between boxing champ Gervonta Davis and social media superstar Jake Paul is currently in jeopardy. According to a new report from USA Today.
Jake Paul, Gervonta Davis Fight Location in Jeopardy
The outlet spoke with Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission Chairman Rick Thompson on September 16. And during that conversation, the chairman revealed that Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions has “Withdrawn their request for event permits and rule waivers required to hold the event in Georgia.”
In August, the two sides revealed that they had an exhibition match. Scheduled to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. However, according to Thompson, the fight should never have been promoted.
“I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been,’’ the chairman said in a statement to the outlet.
There is also a major weight discrepancy between the two gladiators. Paul weighed 227 pounds in his last fight against boxing legend Mike Tyson. And in Tank’s most recent fight against Ryan Garcia in 2023, he weighed 135 pounds. That is a near 100-pound difference between the two.
Thompson also hinted at the two fighters knowing that the weight differential was “too much” for either of them to overcome.
When asked about the weight discrepancy after the fight was announced in August, Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said that the two sides were still “figuring that out.” But also vowed that the bout would have a “definitive” outcome.
“Jake will definitely have to come down below his 200-pound weight that he’s been fighting at,” she said in a statement to ESPN. “I can tell you that we’re going to have a fight that will have a definitive outcome. Whether by way of knockout or decision.”
Despite the permits and waivers being withdrawn for the event, tickets for the November 14 bout remained available for purchase.
