Jam Master Jay’s alleged killer, Karl Jordan Jr., who’s conviction was overturned, may get out of jail soon. Complex Editor Shawn Setaro reports that a judge has ruled Jordan can go home until he faces trial for pending drug-related offenses.

What Happened In Court?

Jordan Jr. appeared in Brooklyn federal court on Monday (April 6), in front of Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall, who vacated his conviction for shooting the legendary Run-DMC DJ, last year. Judge Hall ruled that Jordan Jr. should be freed on a $1 Million bail package, paid for by friends and family. She reasoned that he hadn’t participated in a violent crime since 2004, making him not a danger to the community.

The government, who strongly opposes his release, has requested the ruling not take effect until Friday (April 10) to give prosecutors time to consider an appeal. Jordan Jr. will remain in jail until then.

He will be subject to electronic location monitoring if released according to Setaro.

Why Was Jordan Jr. Convicted in Jam Master Jay’s Murder?

The case, which served as one of the most conspiracy-driven and speculated cold cases in Hip Hop history, caught a supposed break in 2024. A jury convicted Jordan Jr. of firing the bullet that resulted in Jam Master Jay’s death and Ronald Washington for helping plan the murder.

However, in 2025, Judge Hall overturned Jordan Jr.’s conviction, ruling that prosecutors failed to present enough evidence to prove motive.
