Jay-Z used his night-one performance at Yankee Stadium to fire back at critics with a new freestyle during the Jay-Z 30 anniversary concert.
During the verse, the Brooklyn rapper appeared to address recent backlash surrounding his Target partnership, social media criticism and renewed conversations about Colin Kaepernick.
“I don’t listen to Twitter activists, they type and I laugh at them. It’s really no comparison,” Jay-Z rapped.
He also reflected on his journey from the streets to becoming one of hip-hop’s most successful businessmen, declaring, “Ex-drug dealer, you might not like the packaging, but my presence is a present.”
Jay-Z later accused critics of selectively revisiting old controversies, including the backlash he received for partnering with the NFL following Kaepernick’s protest movement.
“You picking and choosing the politicking as usual,” he said. “They digging deep for narratives, it’s embarrassing. They running out of characters, had to bring back up Kaep again.”
The freestyle quickly gained attention online as fans reacted to Jay-Z’s latest response to his critics.
