Jay-Z has secured a decisive legal victory, officially closing a long-running paternity dispute that has followed him for more than a decade.
In a January 2026 ruling, a federal judge awarded Jay-Z approximately $120,000 in legal fees, ordering Lillie Coley—the godmother of Rymir Satterthwaite—to pay $119,235.45 to cover the rapper’s legal expenses. The judgment brings a definitive end to repeated efforts by Coley and Satterthwaite to compel Jay-Z to submit to a DNA test, claims he has consistently denied.
The case was dismissed under California’s anti-SLAPP statute (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation), a law designed to prevent individuals from using the court system to pursue claims deemed frivolous or harassing. Under the ruling, the court barred any further legal action related to the paternity allegations and required the plaintiffs to cover Jay-Z’s legal costs.
The decision marks a significant and final win for Jay-Z, closing the door on years of litigation and reinforcing the court’s stance against continued legal challenges tied to the claim.
