Jay Z May Be Looking Into Seeking Minority Ownership In The Washington Football Team, Formerly Known As The Washington Redskins

Could Jay-Z now be looking to become part-owner of an NFL team?

According to Burgundy Blog on Twitter, Jay-Z is currently in the process of divesting assets to purchase a stake in the Washington Football Team.

So, before you go saying this is another blog making up things. It’s not. The Burgundy Blog has broken a few Washington stories over the years and doesn’t post things like this unless he has solid sourcing.

In addition to his report, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington and 106.7 The Fan backed up the report.

Finlay had the following to say on his radio show on Tuesday:

“If you listen to my podcast, I’ve been saying this for months,” he said. “I heard it from somebody sort of connected to the NFL eight, nine months ago that this could happen.”

Finlay also brought up the connection between Jay-Z and Washington’s current chief financial officer, Greg Resh. Resh, who was hired in November to his current position, came to Washington from Roc Nation  — Jay-Z’s sports and entertainment agency — where he served in the same capacity.

Jay-Z has been working with the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell for a while. Washington owner Daniel Snyder recently bought out his former partners after a nasty dispute and could certainly be looking for new minority partners.

If Jay-Z truly wants in on the WFT, Snyder will make this happen — and he should. Jay-Z is well-respected, connected and would bring even more eyeballs to the Washington Football Team.

Snyder loves chasing stars, whether it’s athletes or actors like Tom Cruise or Washington superfan Matthew McConaughey, and there is no bigger star than Jay-Z.

Jay-Z would also put some cash back in Snyder’s pockets.

This situation will certainly be interesting to follow moving forward.
