JAY-Z’s The Blueprint will be archived in the Library of Congress, joining classics such as John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme and Radiohead’s OK Computer, the National Recording Registry announced today. The new batch of recordings which “reflect our past, present, and future” also includes Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam,” Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly, Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual, Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” and more, Associated Press reports.
The Registry will also preserve Robert F. Kennedy’s speech following Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination in 1968, two months before Kennedy was killed. Additions to the archive last year included Run-D.M.C.’s Raising Hell, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and Chic’s “Le Freak.”
The Blueprint will become the 9th Hip-Hop induction into the Library Of Congress. The other 8 Hip-Hop inductions are Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five – “The Message”, Public Enemy – ‘Fear of a Black Planet’, Tupac Shakur – “Dear Mama”, De La Soul – ‘3 Feet High & Rising’, Sugar Hill Gang – “Rapper’s Delight”, Lauryn Hill – ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, RUN-DMC ‘Raising Hell’, & N.W.A ‘Straight Outta Compton’.
Congrats Jigga.
