In March, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was chosen as the headline for the 2026 Wireless Festival. And the decision has led to a lot of backlash.
Wireless Festival Faces Backlash After Booking Kanye West
The latest entity to speak out against the decision is the Jewish Leadership Council. Who feels the decision to book West was “deeply irresponsible” on the part of the festival’s organizing committee.
“It is deeply irresponsible for Wireless Festival to be headlining Kanye West,” a spokesperson from the council said in a statement to The Guardian. “The UK Jewish community is facing record levels of antisemitism, including a terrorist attack in Manchester, the attack on ambulances in Golders Green, and foiled plots which would have killed many more.”
On several occasions in 2025, West found himself in the midst of controversy. Largely due to his antisemitic comments. In January, he took out an ad in the Wall Street Journal apologizing for his past comments. Before he revealed that he is in an ongoing battle with bipolar disorder.
However, the spokesperson says to take his apology with a grain of salt. Especially when you consider his past actions. +
“West has repeatedly used his platform to spread antisemitism and pro-Nazi messaging,” the statement adds. “His most recent apology must be considered in the context that he went on to sell swastika T-shirts and release a song called ‘Heil Hitler’ after apologizing previously. Any venue or festival should reconsider before providing their platform to Kanye West to spread his antisemitism.”
At the time of writing, the rap star has not responded to the comments made by the council.
Ye is set to headline the festival on July 10-12 in London, England. Tickets will be available for general sale on their website on Wednesday, July 8.
