Jhene Aiko’s new album Westside Whimsey is making headlines. Not only does it feature a new Kendrick Lamar feature, but its causing fans to read between the lines.
On the song, “He Belongs,” Aiko addresses a supposed partner about their lack of commitment.
“Can’t turn a fling into a real thing. Can’t turn a promise to a wedding ring/Can’t turn a h** into a husband,” Aiko sings.
Fans immediately thought she was subbing Big Sean, her ex partner who she was with for several years and shares a child with. However, due to his lack of commitment, they broke up. Now, she’s reportedly involved with Larry June.
Aiko saw the speculation and shut it down on social media quick.
“Song is not about him,” she posted.
Another fan asked if she dissed Big Sean on the album and she replied with a simple “no.”
Elsewhere on the album, she says she’s not trying to drag the father of her child. Still, many fans don’t believe her.
The album features verses from Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Tyga, Larry June, and more.
Big Sean has not responded to the controversy. Recently, he re-united with Kanye West to perform “Mercy.”
