Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s rap feud did the unthinkable. It placed hip-hop center stage. From the Oscars to the Emmys to the Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar and Drake were the talk of the town.

Jim Jones Gets Honest About Kendrick & Drake’s Feud

Even though Dot and Drizzy’s feud put the spotlight on hip-hop for a good chunk of the year, Jim Jones doesn’t agree that it was the best thing for hip-hop in the long run. Jones says that “society got what they wanted” by seeing two of the biggest rappers in the world feud with each other. But as a result, he feels that the genre is currently going through a “dry spell.”

“That battle has put a dent in the hip-hop culture, I would say. People in the media got what they wanted. Two powerful people were going against each other. And somebody gotta be the winner, and somebody gotta be a loser,”Jim says at the 1:23 mark of the clip.

“Now, the aftershock of it all is that none of these dudes who were battling are putting out any music at all. We haven’t heard any music from any of them in how long? And this is the music that we’ve been listening to for the last ten years straight. Drake had the temple knocking, and a lot of that is missing now.”

Young Thug Gets Honest About Viral Beef

While his opinion may be unpopular, he is not the only person who feels that way. During a recent stream, rap artist Young Thug said that he feels like hip-hop is in a “weird place” in the aftermath of Dot and Drizzy’s feud.

“I feel like I always wanted to do this type of music, and then I feel like rap is in a weird space right now,” he explained, as heard by @big_business_ on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Because it just seems like everybody’s beefing. … Two of the biggest artists in the world clash, and a lot of f*cking ripple effect came out after that. Weird. I feel like it’s time. I feel like we gotta take it to the next level. We gotta level up. Like, AI. It’s just so much. Everything in the world is leveling up except hip-hop.”

However, despite their opinions, Drake is expected to drop his ninth studio album, Iceman, in 2026. And rumors have suggested that Kendrick will drop another project as well.
