J. Cole released his highly anticipated seventh studio album, The Fall Off, on February 6. The project features artists such as Westside Gunn, Erykah Badu, Future, and others.
However, there was one noticeable omission from Cole’s feature list. That person is JID, a rising rap artist who is signed to his label, Dreamville.
Joey Bada$$ Calls Out J. Cole Over JID Omission
In a recent social media post, New York City rapper Joey Bada$$ says that it was a calculated decision by Cole. Because he knows that JID would have outclassed him.
“This is exactly why you didn’t see JID on The Fall Off. He would’ve OVERSTOOD the assignment,” Badass wrote in a social media post on Tuesday (March 25). “To me personally, it made no sense that he wasn’t on there, but hey, maybe that’s just me. btw I loved the album, but let’s be frank.”
Joey prefaced his statement about Cole by acknowledging that it’s not only him who’s guilty of this. He says that if any of the “top” rappers were to give a hungry artist an opportunity, the “public perception” of them would “drastically” change.
“Think about it, if somebody at the “top” gave somebody coming up an opportunity to come after them on a record, you know what would happen?!” he added. “LOL N*****AS IS EATING THEIR FOOD! OFF TOP. RENT IS DUE, BILLS PAID EXPEDITIOUSLY. Public perception of who’s the best would be drastically different if this were a regular occurrence.”

Public perception of who’s the best would be…
Of course, Joey’s comments led to a lot of fan reaction on social media.
“You’d be actually cooking if Cole and JID didn’t have multiple collabs already,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I agree with this. It was super strange no Dreamville artist had a verse on his ‘last album,'” a second user added.
At the time of writing, J. Cole has not responded to the comments made by Joey Bada$$.
