If there were a Mount Rushmore for underrated rappers, Joey Badass would definitely qualify for it. He may not be selling out stadiums or moving 100k units in his first week. But Badass is still one of the coldest rappers out. And in his latest freestyle, the rap star shows us why.

Joey Bada$$ Shuts Down Red Bull Cypher

Badass linked up with fellow emcees Big Sean and AB-Soul for the Red Bull Cypher that released on May 13. And Joey is FLOWING on this one. He also reignites his beef with Daylyt. Earlier this year, the two traded jabs over East Coast vs. West Coast rappers and who holds the overall crown.

But on this latest freestyle, Joey doubles down and says it’s not about the East vs. the West. He just believes that he is the best overall.

“They must’ve forgot what K. Dot said on Control, still a bunch of sensitive rappers in their pyjama clothes […] this ain’t East vs West, I just think that I’m the best,” he raps on the song.

Joey Badass burst onto the scene as one of the top artists from the blog era. But lately, he has gained notoriety for his role as “Unique” in 50 Cent’s Raising Kanan.

Unique is a no-nonsense drug dealer from Southside Queens, who has a short temper. Many fans had believed Unique to be dead after an incident, but got a pleasant surprise when he reemerged in the Season 3 finale.

When talking about his role in Season 4 of the series, the rap artist talked about the process of “reimagining” his character.

“We’re used to seeing Unique in a certain light, and it was dope to be like, okay, let me reimagine this character a little bit. Let’s take the calm, charismatic, well-calculated fly dude, and let’s make him unhinged,” Badass said ahead of the Season 4 premiere.

“It felt different, but it was also very exciting. It was definitely a challenge that I was ready for.”
