Ye, formerly known as rap star Kanye West has been on a downward spiral as of late. At one point, West was one of the more connected people in the music industry. But over the past several months, he has called out many of his former cohorts. One of those people is former G.O.O.D. Music artist John Legend.
John Legend Sounds Off on Kanye West
During a recent interview with Hot 97, Legend opened up about Ye’s recent criticism of him. Noting that it is “sad” to see what the Grammy winner has become.
It never affects me personally, but the whole story is sad. Like, seeing this guy praise Hitler, seeing this guy be this force of hate and just vitriol and nastiness. Somebody who has made some of the great art of this century as an artist, as a performer, as a fashion designer, all of the things that he’s done to make the world more beautiful and interesting, and then for him to be this now, it’s sad.”
Legend previously stated in an interview with The New Yorker that the root of his and West’s falling out was over his refusal to support Donald Trump’s presidential election.
The Ordinary People artist noted that he was “very upset” with his decision and called it a “real impetus for” the “strain” in their friendship.
Legend also added that despite the current issues in their relationship, he has no regrets about his past work with Ye.
We did amazing things together as a collective, as a movement. Just think about all the amazing music that came from it. The G.O.O.D. Fridays, all the things that happened during the first 10 years of his career, were just thrilling and to be part of that was amazing. I have no regrets. Even though he’s gone completely left now, I’m so glad that we did what we did together.”
