Kanye West cracked a rare joke while testifying in his copyright trial Wednesday.
According to Billboard, the Chicago rapper’s attorney asked if he won a Grammy for “Brothers in Paris” — a courtroom-friendly version of “N****s in Paris.” Ye reportedly smiled and replied, “What’s the real name?” causing the courtroom to break into laughter.
The lawsuit comes from producers DJ Khalil, Sam Barsh, John Mease and Dan Seeff, who claim Ye used an uncleared sample from “MSD PT2” on an early version of “Hurricane” played during his 2021 Donda listening event in Atlanta.
“We went through the normal process,” he testified, while also claiming people have tried to “take advantage” of him.
