It is no secret that Jay-Z is widely regarded as the greatest rapper of all time. And when you look at his list of accomplishments, it is easy to see why.
Kanye West Edges Out Jay-Z on Billboard Songwriters List
Songs like Moment of Clarity, H to Izzo, and U Don’t Know have helped Jay-Z sell 140 million records worldwide. With his U.S. album sales alone reaching 33.5 million. Additionally, he has eclipsed 34 million digital sales en route to collecting 25 Grammy Awards, 21 BET Hip-Hop Awards, and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2017) and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2021).
Because of all that Jay-Z has accomplished in his illustrious career, Billboard ranked him as the 25th best songwriter of all time. However, despite his extensive list of accomplishments, it still was not enough to edge out his former mentee, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, who came in at 24th on the list.
West holds a significant edge over Hov with 160 million records sold globally, including 126.5 million equivalent album sales. He has also scored 24 Grammy Awards against 76 Grammy nominations.
Despite being one of the most prominent hip-hop duos during the blog era, Ye and Jay-Z’s relationship has soured. Largely due to the comments that he made earlier this year. In one of his social media rants in March, the Yeezy creator called his and Beyonce’s twins Sir and Rumi “ret****d”
“WAIT, HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN JAY Z AND BEYONCE’S YOUNGER KIDS? THEY’RE RETARDED. NO LIKE LITERALLY. AND THIS IS WHY ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION IS A BLESSING. HAVING RETARDED CHILDREN IS A CHOICE,” he said in the post.
However, following a myriad of backlashe\s, Ye also said that he felt bad about his comments. He also said he made the comments because he was upset with Jay-Z and Beyoncé for isolating themselves from him in recent years. While also expressing his desire to apologize.
However, Jay-Z has not responded to any of West’s recent comments.
