Over a decade ago, Kanye West lost his mother after complications from cosmetic surgery led to accelerating heart disease. Since then, West has tried to honor his mother in his music, business, and life.
Now, he attended the unveiling of her new street in Chicago, Donda West Way, which was televised locally.
West was spotted in the background with shades on and clapping as the sign went up, hiding his emotion.
Several Chicago lawmakers were also on scene.
Previously, West has paid tribute to his mother with the albums Donda and Donda 2, along with several songs referencing her.
Other singles, such as “Only One” have been dedicated to her memory.

Earlier this week, West and JAY-Z’s seminal Watch The Throne had a major rumored song leak. “Living So Italian,” which has had small segments released online, got a new snippet as this nine second addition features some bars from West. So far, the song has not leaked in its full form.
Elsewhere, West has been on his comeback tour, which has produced mixed results.
West had shows canceled in Russia, France, the UK, Poland, Italy, Prague, and India. This stems from his history of antisemitic remarks over the past few years. He has since apologized and blamed a lack of medication and extended bout of mania for the bigotry.
Some countries have let West play though. He’s successfully performed in Georgia, Türkiye, Spain, Albania, and other countries.
He has successfully played most American venues despite major pushback.
